About Terri Spahr Nelson

 Terri Spahr Nelson is a national consultant, educator, author and psychotherapist.  She has over 30 years of experience in mental health and behavioral sciences specializing in women’s issues with victims of violence and trauma. Terri has served in many consultant roles, including as a Subject Matter Expert for the Department of Defense on their Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program; Chair of the military subcommittee of the National Task Force to End Domestic and Sexual Violence; and consultant on the National Agenda on Violence Against Women.  Terri is the Editor of the Reflections from Women book series which includes the premier edition, When One Door Closes—Reflections from Women on Life’s Turning Points (2010, Sugati Publications) and book two:  The Moment I Knew--Reflections from Women on Life's Defining Moments (2011).

 Ms. Spahr Nelson is also the author of several publications and articles, including the book:  For Love of Country: Confronting Rape and Sexual Harassment in the U.S. Military (2002, Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group); an essay in the edited book Abuse Your Illusions (2003, The Disinformation Company, Ltd); and several trauma booklets from Sugati Publications including: Coping with Sexual Assault: A Guide to Resolution, Healing and Recovery printed in English, Spanish, Braille and Large Print and Coping with Trauma Work and Vicarious Trauma: A Guide for Professionals and Volunteers who Work with Victims of Trauma, Abuse and Disasters was co-authored with her husband, Dr. Patrick Nelson.  In addition to her publications Terri has facilitated programs and retreats for professionals on vicarious trauma and for women on a wide range of topics.  She maintains a part time psychotherapy private practice and is a volunteer and activist for peace, social justice, and healthcare issues.
